The initial appointment
We know that children are not generally happy if they have to sit around for long periods of time! Therefore, during the initial session, whilst we will need to ask the parent and child (depending on their age) some questions, much of our diagnosis will take place by observing the child and the way they interact with their environment and with others. We also diagnose by looking at a child's tongue (asking a child to stick their tongue out at us usually endears us to them) and by taking their pulse.

For the small minority of children who are genuinely frightened by the idea of needles, we have other techniques up our sleeves:
We also place a high degree of importance on lifestyle advice and will always discuss with parents any changes we think may help their child. For more details on lifestyle advice, please follow the link to that page of our website.
